Why you started TBD

I started martial arts training back in my childhood (early 1980’s). I first started in Judo which I trained in for a few years and after a break, started training in karate in my late teens.  After another break I was introduced to Alun Williams by a work colleague in the summer of 1994 at the Judo centre in Rogerstone. I loved what was been shown and started training. What I liked was the quick movement and ease of taking down larger opponents. When I first started I trained regular with my workmate Mark who was over 6ft and of large build, whereas I am only 5’4″.  I soon learnt how to use my lack of height to my advantage.

Alun is still my main instructor/inspiration, but the TBD group has a great mix of instructors who I also enjoy training with.
I currently teach 3 classes a week, children’s classes in Risca & Ynysddu as well as an adults class in Ynysddu.

I train twice a week as well, always look forward to it.   It’s great to be constantly learning new things, as much from lower grades as well as Dan grades.
2019 saw my 25th year of training with Alun and look forward to many more years to come.
